A distance that was never closed
身体と視線のあいだに生じる距離は、
時に、この世界にいない者との距離さえも写し出す。
私は、光の中にその人の痕跡を観察し、
〈記憶〉という名の構造を、
一枚の写真として定着させる。
ここにあるのは、
かつて確かにそこに在った光であり、
今もなお、私の内部に残り続けている光である。
Distance appears between the body and the gaze.
At times, it even reveals the distance to those
who are no longer in this world.
I observe traces within light,
and fix them as a structure called memory
into a single photograph.
What exists here is the light that once
undeniably existed there,
and that still remains within my internal structure.
距離は、私たちを引き離すものではない。 残り続けてしまうものだ。
Distance is not what separates us.
It is what remains.
Statement
距離は、出来事の結果ではない。
感情が去ったあとに残る痕跡でもない。
人と世界のあいだには、
最初から、そして常に、距離がある。
Distance After は、
その距離が生活のなかで
どのように滞留し、
どのように視界に現れてしまうのかを、
選択と配置によって、
ひとつの状態として記録している。
Distance is not the result of events.
Nor is it a trace left behind by emotion.
Between people and the world,
distance exists from the beginning—and always remains.
Distance After records
how this distance lingers within everyday life,
and how it inevitably appears within the field of vision,
as a single condition,
through selection and arrangement.
この作品は、特定の人物を再現するために制作されたものではない。
過去の関係や記憶を物語として回収することも目的としていない。
むしろ私は、「失われたあとにも残り続ける距離」が
どのように像として成立しうるのかを観察している。
Distance は、写真が感情の代理になることを拒み、
判断と構造によって記憶を扱うための試みである。
This work does not attempt to reconstruct a person
nor to narrate a past relationship.
Instead, it observes how distance continues to persist
after something has been lost,
and how that distance can take form as an image.
Distance rejects photography as a substitute for emotion,
and approaches memory through structure and positioning.
